    Al-Qaeda Claims Responsibility for Jordan Bombings

    AMMAN - The Qaeda group led by America's deadliest foe in Iraq on Thursday claimed bombings that ripped through luxury hotels in Jordan's capital and killed 57 people. In Wednesday night's closely synchronized attacks, two bombs exploded while crowds were celebrating weddings, leaving blood and destruction at Amman's Grand Hyatt and the nearby Radisson SAS. A third blast targeted a Days Inn hotel.

    Feds Indict 2 in Missile-Smuggling Scheme
    LOS ANGELES - A federal grand jury indicted two Southern California men Wednesday with conspiracy to smuggle surface-to-air missiles into the United States. Such missiles are designed to bring down aircraft.

    PARIS - France's worst civil unrest in decades abated a day after the government toughened its stance by imposing emergency measures and ordering deportations of foreigners convicted of taking part in the riots that have raged for two weeks.

    BAGHDAD, Iraq - Two suicide bombers blew themselves up near a restaurant frequented by Baghdad police, killing at least 33 people and seriously injuring 19, while a car bomb killed seven army recruits in Saddam Hussein's hometown, police said.

    General Motors to Restate 2001 Earnings
    DETROIT - General Motors Corp. said Wednesday it plans to restate its earnings from 2001 because an accounting error led the company to overstate its earnings by up to 35 percent. In an unrelated action, Fitch Ratings lowered GM's debt deeper into "junk" status Wednesday and the automaker's shares tumbled to a 13-year low.

    AMMAN, Jordan - Al-Qaida claimed responsibility in an Internet posting Thursday for three suicide attacks on Western hotels that killed at least 57 people, as police clamped down on security and began running DNA tests to try to identify the bombers.
