    Iraq says troop pullout will lead to violence

    TOKYO (Reuters) - Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zebari urged Japan on Friday to keep its troops in southern Iraq, saying an early pullout of coalition forces would lead to more violence by insurgents.

    Iraqi Red Crescent thanks U.S. with $1 million for Katrina relief

    Iraq's Red Crescent relief organization found its own way to mark the Thanksgiving holiday yesterday by announcing that it had sent a $1 million "thank you" donation to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. "I wish we could have a billion dollars to give," Said Hakki, the organization's president, said by telephone from Baghdad. "Even then, it is not enough to show our appreciation for what the U.S. has done for Iraq and is still doing."

    Media Questions China's Handling of Spill

    HARBIN, China - China's usually docile government-run media raised sharp questions Friday over the handling of a chemical spill that forced this city to shut off water supply to 3.8 million people. In the southwest, thousands fled the area of another industrial accident for fear of a second toxic leak.

    Iran preparing to start nuclear enrichment-diplomats

    VIENNA (Reuters) - Iran is pushing ahead with plans to enrich uranium in defiance of international pressure to give up sensitive nuclear technology to allay fears that it is seeking a nuclear bomb, diplomats and intelligence sources say.

    Gaza-Egypt border crossing opens

    RAFAH, Gaza Strip (Reuters) - Palestinians formally opened a border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt on Friday that will allow Gazans to travel abroad freely for the first time since Israel occupied the coastal territory in 1967.

    Japan probe trying to land on asteroid

    TOKYO (Reuters) - A Japanese probe is readying itself to make a fresh and final attempt to land on the surface of an asteroid and pluck up rock samples, a delicate task officials on Friday said was like trying to land a jet in the Grand Canyon.

    Sisters 'Fine' After Parade Accident

    NEW YORK - The two sisters injured because of an unwieldy giant balloon in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade are "doing just fine," and the family doesn't plan to sue over the incident, their father said.

    BAGHDAD, Iraq - A key witness against Saddam Hussein has died of cancer, but his testimony has been recorded on audio and video tape for presentation in the trial scheduled to begin next week, the main prosecutor said Friday.
