    BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraqis voted in a historic parliamentary election Thursday, with strong turnout reported in Sunni Arab areas that had shunned balloting last January, bolstering U.S. hopes of calming the insurgency enough to begin withdrawing its troops.

    Bush: Iraq Invasion My Responsibility

    WASHINGTON - President Bush said Wednesday the responsibility for invading Iraq based in part on faulty weapons intelligence rested solely with him, taking on the issue in his most direct and personal terms in the 1,000-plus days since the war's first shots.

    WASHINGTON - Senate Republican leaders fought Wednesday to save the USA Patriot Act renewal from sinking under the weight of opposition from a bipartisan group that says the measure would give the FBI a dangerous amount of power.

    BOSTON - After earning two Harvard degrees, making millions as a businessman and turning around a scandal-plagued Winter Olympics, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has created quite a list of accomplishments, some political analysts say. Those analysts believe the Republican announced Wednesday he will not to seek re-election next year because he did not want to risk tarnishing his resume if he decides to run for president in 2008.

    UAW: Health Care to Cost Ford Workers More

    DETROIT - Ford Motor Co.'s active and retired autoworkers, who have long enjoyed some of the most generous benefits in the country, will have to pay more for their health care under a tentative agreement between the automaker and the United Auto Workers, the union said Wednesday.

    Reservoir Fails in Ozarks; Three Injured

    LESTERVILLE, Mo. - The stone retaining wall around a huge mountaintop reservoir in the Ozarks collapsed before daybreak Wednesday, releasing a billion-gallon torrent of water that swept away at least two homes and several vehicles and critically injured three children, authorities said.

    Pentagon Subpoenaed for Katrina Documents

    WASHINGTON - The Republican chairman of a special House investigation panel has subpoenaed the Pentagon, and is considering sending another to the White House, to get documents detailing the government's response to Hurricane Katrina.
