    More Grass Fires Flare in Windy Oklahoma

    CROSS PLAINS, Texas - As Gov. Rick Perry toured this wildfire-ravaged town Thursday and urged counties to prohibit fireworks around the New Year's holiday, more grass fires flared in windy weather in eastern Oklahoma.

    U.N. declares Iraq vote 'credible'

    BAGHDAD, Iraq - A top U.N. official yesterday declared Iraq's recent parliamentary elections legitimate, even as the country's election commission pledged to intensify its review for fraud and ballot-box stuffing.

    DENVER - A winter storm packing snow and wind gusts to 75 mph blew across the Colorado Rockies on Thursday, knocking down trees, causing accidents and shutting down roads including heavily traveled Interstate 70 west of Denver.

    Pace: U.S. to Launch Phased Iraq Pullout

    ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - The U.S. will carry out planned withdrawals of American troops in Iraq only from regions where Iraqi forces can maintain security against the insurgents, the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff said Thursday.
