    TALLMANSVILLE, W.Va. - In a stunning and heartbreaking reversal, family members were told early Wednesday that 12 of 13 trapped coal miners found were dead — three hours after they began celebrating news that they were alive.

    BAQOUBA, Iraq - A suicide bomber killed at least 30 people Wednesday at the funeral for the nephew of a Shiite politician, and 13 people were killed in other violence in Iraq, making Wednesday the deadliest day since the Dec. 15 parliamentary elections.

    MOSCOW - The Russian and Ukrainian natural gas companies agreed Wednesday on a plan to resume gas shipments to Ukraine that allowed both sides to claim victory after a commercial and political dispute that had raised fears of gas shortages in Europe.

    Intelligence Panel Had Clue About Spying

    TALLMANSVILLE, W.Va. - Family members of victims in a fatal mining accident became enraged and lunged at a coal company official early Wednesday after being told that only one of 13 miners had survived a mine explosion, witnesses said.

    TAMPA - A 15-year-old girl is in critical condition after being hit by a truck this morning. Police say the teenager was crossing Busch Boulevard on her way to Chamberlain High School when she was hit by a pickup truck at the intersection with North Boulevard.

    MIAMI - This really was one for the ages. For more than four hours, Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden paced the Orange Bowl sidelines, searching for offense and enduring one missed kick after another. Finally, in the third overtime, at 1 a.m. Wednesday, Kevin Kelly made a 29-yard field goal, giving Paterno and Penn State a 26-23 victory over Bowden's Florida State Seminoles.
