    WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney was taken to George Washington Hospital early Monday experiencing shortness of breath, a spokeswoman said.

    JERUSALEM - Doctors started bringing Prime Minister Ariel Sharon out of an induced coma Monday to assess the damage caused by his stroke, and he immediately began breathing on his own.

    12 Dead in U.S. Helicopter Crash in Iraq

    BAGHDAD, Iraq - Eight U.S. troops and four American civilians died aboard a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter that crashed in northern Iraq, the military said Monday. Two attacks on Iraq's Interior Ministry killed seven people.

    13 Killed in Iranian Plane Crash

    TEHRAN, Iran - A small military jet crashed in northwestern Iran on Monday, killing the commander of the ground forces of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards and at least 12 other people, state media said.

    Plains Fires Spread to Colorado, Arkansas

    AGUILAR, Colo. - The wildfire danger that has been menacing the parched southern plains spread to Arkansas and Colorado on Sunday, where wind-whipped blazes destroyed at least nine homes and forced hundreds of people to evacuate, authorities said.

    CARACAS, Venezuela - The American singer and activist Harry Belafonte called President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world" on Sunday and said millions of Americans support the socialist revolution of Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez.
