    U.S. rejects bin Laden's 'truce' offer

    WASHINGTON - Osama bin Laden offered the U.S. a "truce" in Iraq and Afghanistan in a new audiotape aired yesterday on Al Jazeera Arabic-language TV -- a proposal the White House rejected immediately. "We don't negotiate with terrorists," Vice President Dick Cheney said. "I think you have to destroy them."

    Iran, at risk of UN sanctions, says moving assets

    TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran is moving its foreign assets to an undisclosed destination, apparently to shield them from any U.N. sanctions over its nuclear program, the central bank governor was quoted as saying on Friday.

    BAGHDAD, Iraq - A top Sunni politician appealed Friday for the release of an American female journalist and urged U.S. and Iraqi forces to stop arresting Iraqi women as a deadline set by the reporter's kidnappers was set to elapse.

    TOKYO - Japan's agriculture minister recommended a total halt to American beef imports if officials confirm a recent U.S. meat shipment contained material considered at risk for mad cow disease, a ministry spokesman said.

    JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel's defense minister accused Iran and Syria of being directly responsible for Thursday's suicide bombing in Tel Aviv which wounded 30 people, newspaper reports said on Friday.

    Fire Erupts in W.Va. Mine; Two Missing

    MELVILLE, W.Va. - Rescue teams searched early Friday for two miners who were unable to escape after a fire broke out in an underground coal mine. Nineteen miners were able to flee the blaze, state officials said.

    No jail time for for Citrus County teacher

    A former Lecanto High School teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student will serve a reduced sentence after pleading no contest Thursday to a charge of lewd and lascivious battery. Citrus County Judge Ric Howard ordered 36-year-old Amy Lilley to serve two years of community service and eight years of sex offender probation for her relationship with a 15-year old-girl.

    ORLANDO - A Sanford mother says she will never be able to hold her newborn because an Orlando hospital performed a life-altering surgery and, she claims, the hospital refuses to explain why they left her as a multiple amputee.     DADE CITY, Fla. - A college student who lost control of the car she was driving, killing three friends, has been ordered to take a driver safety course. Alrick Drummond, 19, a student at Florida A&M University was charged with careless driving. Pasco County Judge Robert P. Cole ordered Drummond to pay $100 in court costs.
