    Rice Urges No Aid to Hamas Government

    LONDON - The United States wants other nations to cut off aid to a Hamas-led Palestinian government, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said ahead of an international strategy session on Mideast peace prospects.

    Iran makes proposals before UN powers meet

    BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Iran will make proposals to calm its nuclear row with the West on Monday, just hours before the United States and its European allies try to persuade Russia and China to back tough diplomatic action against it.

    CARACAS, Venezuela - Cindy Sheehan, who gained international fame when she camped outside President Bush's ranch in an anti-war protest, plans to pitch her tent again, Venezuela's socialist president said Sunday as he urged activists worldwide to help bring down "the U.S. empire."

    Jury to be selected in long-awaited Enron trial

    HOUSTON (Reuters) - Jury selection was set to begin on Monday in the long-awaited trial of former Enron Corp. chief executives Ken Lay and Jeffrey Skilling for their roles in the spectacular 2001 collapse of the former energy trading giant.

    Body Armor Likely Saved ABC News Pair

    NEW YORK - ABC News led its broadcasts with its own journalists in the news: anchor Bob Woodruff and a cameraman had been seriously injured by a roadside bomb while reporting in Iraq.

    32 of 70 Trapped Canadian Miners Rescued

    ESTERHAZY, Saskatchewan - Nearly half of the 70 miners trapped underground by a fire have been rescued, while the rest remained underground in emergency refuge rooms stocked with oxygen and supplies, a mine official said Monday.

    Religious Groups Get Chunk of AIDS Money

    New groups are springing up to win a piece of President Bush's $15 billion AIDS program, with traditional players and religious groups joining forces to improve their chances in a competition that already has targeted nearly a quarter of its grants for faith-based organizations.

    4 Kidnapped Oil Workers Freed in Nigeria

    YENAGOA, Nigeria - Four foreign oil workers were released Monday after being held hostage for more than two weeks by a militia demanding that residents in volatile southern Nigeria benefit more from its energy wealth.

    Saddam, Defense Leave Trial in Protest

    BAGHDAD, Iraq - A new judge cracked down Sunday in a chaotic session of Saddam Hussein's trial, ordering a co-defendant and a lawyer expelled from the courtroom. The entire defense team left in protest and Saddam was escorted out after a shouting match in which he yelled, "Down with America!"

    Israel Rules Out Contact With Hamas

    JERUSALEM - Israel's acting prime minister on Sunday ruled out contacts with a Palestinian government led by Hamas unless the Islamic group renounces violence, and the defense minister threatened to "liquidate" militants if they attack Israelis.

    'Baby Jessica,' Now 19, Reportedly Marries

    MIDLAND, Texas - "Baby Jessica," whose dramatic rescue from an abandoned Texas well was televised across the country 18 years ago, got married in a private ceremony, People magazine reported on its Web site.

    SAO PAULO, Brazil - A baby girl was found inside a plastic bag floating on a lake in Brazil after passers-by heard her crying. The infant was released from a hospital Sunday in good health, doctors said.

    Industrial fire blackens sky near TIA

    TAMPA - Large plumes of black smoke and toxic fumes fouled the air in an industrial area just north of Tampa International Airport on Sunday afternoon. Dozens of passersby stopped to see whether a plan had crashed, but fire officials said the smoke came from a four-alarm fire at Westshore Glass Corp.

    Florida charity accused of bilking millions from retirees

    Defiant Lorenzo gets 200 years

Lorenzo, 46, was convicted Nov. 10 of drugging nine men, including two who died, with the date-rape drug GHB in order to commit violence.
